Painting lilac on a cake

My cake painting adventure continues. This time i tried painting lilac on it but at the same time I have incorporated some fondant decorations to make it look textured rather than just flat. Anyway I did this on a 10" sugee cake. Some one had asked me if she can learn this cake painting.....at the moment I'm still experimenting to see how far it goes but in order for you to start painting the brushstroke method on the cake you have to know the basics of folk art painting on wood..There is no pattern transfer...it is all free style when you do on the cake...so you have to know your strokes well and know how to handle the food paint.

My latest cake painting adventure

This is another cake painting experiments that I did recently. I have been doing a lot of roses on the cakes but this time I would like to try on different flowers i.e whether the food colouring is able to handle different types of brush strokes. I have done Hydrangeas before but it does not turn out so well. The sponge cake looks cute actually.

Signage for a restaurant

An owner of a restaurant had asked me to paint this signage. It looks simple but it proves to be quite a tasked to paint a small "kendi Air" and Batu Lesong". Even worst trying to paint "Gulai pucuk tempoyak" and "Sambal petai goreng", etc. It's just not my cup of tea...especially after painting the bakery stuff...hahaha!!!

Some how, it will always make me feel hungry while I'm painting it .The next thing I know I will be looking for a bread or cake to eat....hmmm..not good for diet.

More canvas painting

Here are some more canvas being painted with flowers : Rose, Orchid and Lily. So much fun to paint on canvas and my theme is always using 12"x12" canvas with only one stalk of flower on it. It makes it look prominent and you can focus on its details.

Food, Food , Food!

Last night we had a pre-Mother's Day party for my old mother and the amount of food we had was outrageous..all of them are delicious (since it's home cook) but I'm afraid it's not so healthy....pasta, chicken rice, cupcakes and of course the cake that I made with full fondant decorations......bust my diet !! So today I decided not to eat so much.

Any way I have some paintings of food on wooden and tin items for you to decorate your kitchen.

Enamel pot from the flea market

It is really hard to get this enamel pot in Klang Valley but I found this in the flea market last Sunday. I decided to paint hydrangeas using the enamel paint. The beauty of this paint is that you don't need to paint the background or put sealer on the surface. You can paint directly and it does not require you to varnish at all. You can just use it when dry and washed it with no problem.

Cake painting again

I have been experimenting with cake making and decorating for quite sometime but recently I have attended a class in cake decorating at Norizanbakers. My teacher is actually my painting student so we get to learn from each other. After learning new tricks with decorating using the fondant I start to incorporate my painting on it. It turns out quite glamorous.

Painting on Canvas

Lately I have been busy painting on Canvas. It's been quite a long time since I did projects on canvas. But once I started I just couldn't stop. It is so interesting as the technique and approached towards painting this surface is a lot easier than painting on wood. No sandpapering is required which is quite heavenly for me. It uses a lot of basecoating, shading with blending gel and dry brushing or highlighting. Currently I am doing a series of flowers like peon, tulips, sunflower, lotus, etc.

Updates on Classes information on website

I had been operating this craft shop for slightly more than 10 years and had teach so many students form all over Malaysia and some from overseas too. Among those that I have thought previously, some just dwindled away but I hope they are doing alright managing their lives. However, some did came back to say hello and give me some good news such as having a new born baby, just about to get married, just recovered from breast cancer or like my OKU student who just had an operation  and now looking radiant....I'm so happy for them. A few years ago I had a student who are supposed to come for class but did not turn up and two weeks later her husband called me and told me that she had died on the operating table..I was very shocked and at the same time feel saddened by this piece of news. So, if you happen to be around my area, please drop by at the shop just to say hello and update me on your latest painting project or if you have not been doing anything about it also please tell me ....I will try to understand.....hahaha!!!

By the way, just like to inform you that the shop website is currently being updated with the latest information. I have decided to focus more on products relating to painting and decoupage. As such we are no longer offering products and classes relating to candle and soap making. In fact we have added more products and classes on painting for adult ( i.e. 13 yrs old and above). We now have series of classes for Folk Art Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. Also,we are no longer running children's classes. Please check the info at www.creativecottageonline.com
