Door gifts for a wedding

Another challenge is to paint 50 little boxes as door gifts for a wedding. The time consuming part of this project is basecoating the boxes with white colour. The good part is you will get ample practice for your brushstrokes. I also get to experiment painting different types of colour combination and placement of the roses. It Really test your creativity. The idea is to have each of the 50 items uniquely handpainted with roses. One item may take you at least 1 1/2 hour to complete from the moment you brush your sealer to the last final varnishing. So you can't really do very much in one day.

Time flies....

A student learning to paint a clock with birds flying to indicate how time flies these days. Very symbolic, but the challenge of painting this clock is to get the numberings and the minutes indicator all synchronized with the clock mechanism.

Re-furbished bookends

Originally I wanted to throw away this white bookends but decided to re-paint it white since it has dirty stains on it. I also painted green bamboo shoots to make it look oriental.

Lace coasters

I guessed this would be my last project before the Hari Raya Holidays. I've painted lace design on 10 coasters and a coaster holder. Appropriate to be used for the festive season especially if your house is decorated with the english-style cconcept. Its quite a challenge to do this kind of design. You need to work with Clear glaze medium and Flow medium to get the lacy effect. Also you must make sure that you have the appropriate tools like the small liner brush and a sharp stylus. If you are wearing reading glasses make sure you have them on when you are doing this, otherwise you will see stars after finishing the project....hahaha!

Speaking of Hari Raya, I would like to take the opportunity to wished all muslim "Selamat Hari Raya...maaf ZAHIR batin". Looks like my name is so popular these days!!
If you are going outstation, please drive carefully. Please, please, please go easy on the food during Hari raya as there will be plenty of food that can make your cholesterol, blood presure, sugar level all go so high.
Those who will still be in KL ....have a great weekend , you will have a breezy time driving around the city with no jam !!!!

By the way, my shop will be closed on Friday and Saturday but will open on Sunday again.

English -style Duit Raya Packet

Hari Raya is just around the corner. Have you had all your preparation done yet ? If you feel you still got time, you can try doing your own customised Duit Raya Packet. It adds a bit of personal touch to your gift, especially to the people that you care. It also makes you apply the skills that you have learned.

The person who received this packet will be so overwhelmed that they don't mind the content of it.....hahaha!...but the important thing is the sincerity of giving.

Oriental Bed-in Tray

This is an old white bed-in tray that I have re-painted with a typical oriental look of red and gold and scattered with Chinese characters. You may be wondering why I did not paint roses or hydrangeas since the background is white. Well, try something different this time around. The words that has been scattered on top can be applied to newly weds I was told. But would you give a refurbished item as a wedding present ?....in any case it would be good to promote recycling and it is a hand-crafted thing.

Painting on a wooden screen

A restaurant had asked me to paint some design on their wooden screen recently. The main part of the screen is not really smooth as it has carvings of little wheat flowers scattered over the surface. So I decided to paint the carvings with gold and paint little flowers here and there just to add a bit of colour to the dark and dull surface. A tedious process and a lot of replication. .....quite a boring task but ...that's what you do for money...hahaha!!

Doily on the Lazy Susan

A customer had asked me to paint two lazy susan and I decided to paint a doily in the background. This doily is as big as the lazy susan itself, so it almost cover the surface. On top of the doily I painted roses and also hydrangeas. However I painted the flowers only on one side of the surface so as to show a bit of the doily which is the main feature.
