Tolehaven clock

Its been quite awhile that I had painted designs from Gail Anderson's Tolehaven series. Since I have got the wooden clock that fit this design, I thought it would be a good idea to do it. I like the colour combination but painting it is another matter altogether. Very tedious technique which took me a few days to complete. Basecoating, shading and highlighting with many shades of colour. I have yet to put the clock mechanism and a mounting hook for it. Its not going to be a cheap item.

English Cottage on a frying pan.

Another english cottage and garden scene that I have painted on the back of a frying pan. Really like the outcome of it. Cute.

Last Saturday I did a craft workshop with the Kementrian Pelancongan at the Saloma Bistro in KL. About 40+ people attended this workshop i.e. painting the eco-friendly bag and the decoupage. Quite a large crowd to teach but fortunately everyone is able to follow and enjoy the painting.

Refurbishing

A customer had asked me to repaint some parts of this canvas mainly because some of the paints has chipped off. One of the challenges of doing repair work like this is trying to get the original colour in place again. I presumed you just need to use your colour sense...your best guessed and creativity in blending the new colour with old one. In some places I need to use the texture paste to smooth up the surface.

Another refurbishing project that I had done is to repaint an old wooden first aid box. I decided to paint a layer of black gesso to get rid of the old design and then sandpaper it. Using dark background colour does help.

Tulips for Mom

I was told to paint something on the vase containing a bunch of Tulips for a birthday gift. I thought it would be a good idea to paint tulips as well on the vase. When its done, it looks quite matching and pretty.

An e-mail from Finland

Today is not a good day for me, feeling a bit sleepy after staying up late watching my favourite team got thrashed in World Cup football final match. Anyway, I had a pleasant surprised today when I received an e-mail from a former student of mine from Finland. Apparently she had submitted an article and a picture of her learning at my shop in her local newspaper. So this is the picture that her husband took and it has appeared in the Finland newspaper.

Don't know why I'm dreaming of Paul the Octopus swimming in my Steamboat....hahaha!

Folk art workshop III in Ipoh

Last Sunday, I had conducted a folk art workshop for the third time in Ipoh. This time the attendees got to learn the Ros Singleton's technique of painting roses. Although the method of painting is a bit complicated but everyone seems to be pleased with the opportunity to learn this technique. Hope everyone will get to apply it to their own project at home.

Student from China

A student of mine came to learn painting garden scenery recently and she had brought along her boyfriend from China. It seems that they have common interest and i.e. art. So she had encouraged the boyfriend to paint as well and obviously he had enjoyed doing it.
