Hari Alam Sekitar

Last few days I have been busy preparing for the Hari Alam Sekitar which will be held at Precinct 4, Putrajaya tomorrow (24/6/2010). I have been invited by the Jabatan Alam Sekitar to showcase and demonstrate the usage of recycle stuffs as decorative items. I will be there between 8.30 am - 2.00 pm to promote my book and sell some of the painting materials. If you are around the area, please come and visit me. I have painted a few things such as the mooncake boxes, biscuit tins, CDs, Nescafe bottles, etc. I have spent quite a bit of time painting the World Cup 2010 football jerseys on the bottles just to get the right colour combination and the emblem. Anyway, it was fun doing it. You can put some "kacang" in the bottles, just the right snack to eat while you watch your favourite team playing on TV.

Painting in Melaka

Last Saturday I had the opportunity to teached painting at D'Pelican Restaurant Melaka where the location is by the lake and near the Zoo. The most interesting part is that we are painting by the window facing the Elephant show. So, we can practically walkout to the back door and have our picture taken with the elephant dancing in the background......hahaha!!

Also, who can beat this incredible price for a buffet lunch that cost 3 ringgit per person...hahaha!!
Sounds like I'm advertising...hehehe,,,

A student from Sg Petani

During this school holidays I received a lot of customers from various places such Trengganu, Johor, Kedah. Here is a student from Sg. Petani who had taken a few classes within a day.

Traditional Russian Folk Art

Here is a student who came to learn the Russian Folk art technique (Zhostovo). This technique requires you do a lot of layering and usage of blending gel to get the right effect. Quite a complicated process and thus requires a lot of patient to do it.

I also did a sample on of the zhostovo on a piece of placemat.

Previously this student had done the Norwegian Folk Art design (Rosmaling) which she had completed the project on her own. It turns out very elegant.

Folk art on porcelain

You can use the folk art brushstroke technique on porcelain too. However you need to use the porcelain paint to do it. After baking the item in the oven you are able to used it and washed also.

Teacher taking a break

This student of mine is a school teacher. She has taken the opportunity during school holidays to learn a few techniques like painting the bear, garden scenery and still life.

Roses on enamel pot

A customer had asked me to paint on this enamel pot. Originally she had requested me to paint the whole pot with background colour in which I may have to use gesso and acrylic paint. I managed to convinced her to retained the original outlook of the enamel pot which I thought was rather authentic. The only thing I had to do is to paint the roses using the enamel paint. It looks really good after painting it and now she can even used it rather than just a display item.

House Number Plate

Sometimes people took all the trouble to beautify their house. This is an enamel plate bought overseas by a customer who had asked me to put the house numbers as a gift. I used enamel paint to put the numbers on since this is going to be mounted outside (in the rain). There is no varnishing required. The elegant numbers are printed from the computer and transfer it to the surface using the transfer paper

Another tin item

This another old tin item that a customer had asked me to paint. Never really like painting on an item where the surface is not that smooth. It messed up your brushstroke and you end up repeating a few times just to get it right. Very frustrating project even though in the end it still look quite good. A surface situation where you should not paint roses as your motif.

Learning Roses and still life

This is a student from JB learning to paint roses using the Priscilla Hauser's Method. Its not that difficult if you focus on your brushstroke technique. She also learned still life painting in which the main feature is the Campbell soup tin. This is the first time I did this design for a student.

Lily on black porcelain plate

A student who learned to paint a white lily on a black background plate. Again using the technique of basecoating, shading and highlighting but for this case we are using the Porcelain Paint where we need to bake it in the oven in order for the plate to be used daily. You can used the normal oven to bake it at 150 c for 35 minutes.

Still Life Painting

This is a student who learned to paint still life on a wooden frame. This kind painting requires detail work like basecoating each of the item, shading, highlighting and dry brushing. Its not difficult to do but quite tedious and you have to have patience in doing this.
