Student from China

Teaching folk art has given me lots of opportunities to interact with different people of multi-cultural background. From these interactions I get a nutshell view of what others are experiencing in their daily life. Something that you can learned from it. Here is a student from China who is interested to learn folk art techniques as a hobby. She does oil painting on her spare time and she is a student in UM studying Educational Psychology. She has become a bit Malaysianized because all her English conversation has the word "lah" in it ...hahaha.

Tolehaven Lazy Susan

Another creation from the Tolehaven series of design that I have painted on a Lazy Susan. Suitable to be placed in the middle of your dinner table. I like the soft colour combination. By doing this design you get plenty of practice with shading and highlighting technique.

Tolehaven Placemat

Yes, I've gone crazy with painting Tolehaven design. This time on six placemats. Painting the same design over and over can be a bit tedious but if you organized your work properly, you can finished it quite quickly. Example, paint all the leaves together, and then the flowers. By doing these you don't have to wash your brush often. Also doing this project can get off your mind from thinking about food.

If you are thinking about painting placemats for usage, make sure that you sealed the wood properly and ensure that you varnished at least 3 layers. As you know, Malaysian food are often very messy. So you need to wipe the placemat with damp cloth after usage.

Jar Carrier for Hari raya

Fasting does not slow me down in fact it made me more productive. I have painted this Jar carrier or basket with a tolehaven design. The colours are rather soft but it looks elegant. Suitable for the english-style home.

English-style Hari raya plaque

I painted this plaque to decorate the shop for the Hari Raya Festivity. Since I want it to blend with the decor in the shop which is more to the English country concept, thus the Hari raya plaque has the same outlook too. You can hang it every year during the Hari raya time...quite useful.

Perhaps for the Chinese New Year we can do the same design except we change the ketupat with a hanging red fire crackers. ...and why not ?...its called being creative to the max !!!!

I have also put up my gingerbread man wearing the baju melayu which I had painted previous year.

The items look good in the Newspaper. Sorry, the picture is not very sharp. Basically its just showing the items and a bit of description about it.

Scenery on a small board.

These two small boards has its own little story behind it. It was given to me sometime ago by a person who just walk into the shop and say "I found these boards lying about in the house and I thought you could do something to it" and he just walked off. I was a bit clueless, why some people are so nice to do that.

Anyway, I decided to paint some country scenery that can be used to hang in a little corner of the house.
