The end of CNY

Last Sunday was the last day of CNY celebration. At Amcorp Mall there were many activities relating to this, including a performance of a traditional Chinese Opera. Thus, most of my students had problems in focusing on their brushstrokes exercises. The noise really a distraction. I should have given them earplugs...hahaha.

Roses, rose, roses

Everyone likes to learn to paint roses. But actually it is one of the hardest flowers to paint. There are the round brush roses, angle brush roses and filbert brush roses, all have the same concept but they look different from one another.

This is a student who learn the angle brush roseson a double-switch plaque using the Raindrop colour as the background and Plum Pink/white colour for the roses. It turns out to be quite a nice combination.

Spending Ang Pow money creatively.

With all the festivity mood of CNY, these young ladies still find time to come and continue their lessons in Folk Art painting. What a great way of spending their Ang Pow money !

A proud owner of my book

This is one of my senior student who had learnt folk art from me ever since 5 years ago. In fact most of the tricks in the book has been taught to her before. Nevertheless, she bought my book recently to show her support. Thank you, Terry !!

Folk Art interest in the North

It seems that a lot of people in the North are showing great interest in Folk Art painting. Here's another student from Penang who took the opportunity to learn from me during the weekend. Lucky for her to have a husband and daughter who are supportive of her interest. I am sure she will be back again soon to continue her series.

Chicken is still the favourite

This is a student from Kedah who did a nice Cockerel in which I also enjoyed teaching it. Something different from other chicken that I have taught before.

While she was doing the chicken, her young daughter is painting gingerbread man.

All in the family

This is another team, a mother and two of her daughters from Perak who took the folk art series of classes in two days. Its a great experienced for all of them but leaving me quite breathless at the end of the marathon.

Father & daughter team

During the CNY long holidays, a lot of outstation people came to my shop to learn folk art painting. Among them is this father and daughter team from Penang who took the folk art class series in two days. They really enjoyed the marathon.

Roses are still the favourite.

It seems that roses are still the favourite design to be painted on wood pieces. Here is a student who learns to paint roses using the Ros Singleton style.

Porcelain Painting By A Foreign Student

This is a student from Nigeria who likes to try his hand on Porcelain Painting. He was amazed that he can actually produced something nice.....and he is coming back for more.

Everyone loves doing decoupage

This is another student from Kelantan who learns Decoupage on tin at my shop recently. She is a lawyer and thought that the craftwork can help to reduced stress after her court cases....hehehe..

Decoupage Single-handedly

Here is a student who came to learn Decoupage on tin using only 1 1/2 functioning hand. She just had an arm operation and find it bored to stay at home. This is one way of killing boredom and it also proves that you can actually do decoupage single-handedly.

Compilation of My Craft Work

I bought this book from one of my student who happened to buy it from her local book shop. Its a compilation of step-by-step craft work that I have done for Dapur and Rasa Magazines. Its published by Alaf 21 and its selling at RM 7.00. If you are interested, try to find it at any bookshop close to you.

Majalah Keluarga mac 2010

Just to let you know that some of my crafts that I did previously for this magazine was published again. They have selected only items pertaining to wall decoration. If you are interested you can buy the magazine at your local book stores now.

Gong Xi Fa Cai and Happy Valentine's day

I have been so busy with teaching these past few days that I did not have time to post this. Anyway, I hope its not too late to wish all my Chinese customers and friends a Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year. Hope you all had a great reunion dinner. For non-Chinese this is the the time to rest or do some craft work and also visit your Chinese friends.

I also like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day. I tried to do a last minute items for the event but only managed a few little ones. It takes too long to do each one even though it is small.

Decoupage Tin for CNY

This tin has been decoupage and painted to look like a vintage tin with oriental design. Good to store your kuih kapit or fortune cookies for CNY. I have used vintage pictures taken from wrapping paper but unfortunately this wrapping paper does not take too well with the varnish that I used. It wrinkles a lot and the colour runs a bit.

Somehow this vintage tin reminds me of the good old days when Teresa Teng's song "The moon represents my heart " was very popular. One of my chinese neighbours in my kampung used to play this song over and over. Now I'm beginning to wonder what happen to his cute daughter Moi Moi.......hahaha!!

Fruit bowl for CNY

In between teaching, I try to paint some items for CNY. This is a fruit bowl to put oranges. I've used a motif inspired by a picture I saw on a CNY cookie tin. I also have used the glass painting technique using the outliner and watery acrylic paint.

Friendship starts in Folkart Class

These are my new studenst who came to learn recently. One from Kuantan and the other from Melaka. One came in a bus the other came on a motorbike. All for the sake of learning Folkart and along the way they also get to know new friends who has the same passion.

Tell me which one of the two came on a motorbike ?

Notice board

This is a notice board or menu board or you can paste a poster or pictures in the middle of it. I've painted it in the usual English look with a crackling base and wisteria/roses /ribbon detail design.

Thank you card ?

Well, sometimes it is better to make a gift that is more personal and something that the person who received it will remember. Here's a customer who has asked me to make a Thank You plaque using napkin decoupage. It will enabled the person who received to hang it at the office or at home.

A better idea then giving a thank you card where some people may just throw it in the drawer.
