This elegant Dustbin will never go out of the door again as I have painted it with Hydrangeas and laces. The lace work took a little bit of time and effort. Otherwise the combination of colours and motifs will make it look very Royally to put dirty laundry ...hahaha!!!

Rice bucket for CNY

This is a rice bucket that I have painted for a customer who wants to use it for CNY. I really like it since it reflects the vibrancy of the festivity. The customer specifically requested for 9 koi fishes on top and cherry blossoms around it. Eh, Amcorp Mall is a bit quiet today......why le......like everybody oledi in the festive mood and no one wants to go to work. I am thinking of closing the shop on the 1st day of CNY unless there some people who wants to come for visits or lessons.

Painted items for CNY

Chinese New Year is not too far away and there are so little time to paint for CNY. I only managed to do two pots and a carrier so far. Still yet to paint a rice bucket for a customer. The carrier is to put cookie jars. The pots to put house plants. I was thinking of painting a biscuit tin to put kuih kapit and a wooden fruit bowl for putting in oranges...but now has to abandoned the project since I'm a bit busy with painting for wedding door gifts and promoting my book.

Cake painting 3

I make a layered cake and fondant again to experiment with my cake painting. This is just trying to gain a bit more experience in handling the paint. Have yet to find a better one then the one I'm currently using. The more you do the more things you discover. It means a lot of cakes to be eaten which leads to FAT!!!...hahaha!!!

Candle Holder

I have been teaching students of different level and different ages for many years. From a 13-year old talented student learning Folk Art to a grandmother learning to paint on a jumper for her little grandchild. The year 2011 is ending and I was looking for a diary for 2012. I thought I saw a diary which is quite nice in Starbuck. But unfortunately it cost a fortune to buy it there. It is selling at RM 88 for a diary or buy 15 drinks. ...who wants to drink 15 Latte at a time ??? so ridiculous. Disappointed, I went to Popular and buy a cheap one instead. Once I had painted on the cover, it looks very exclusive. Save me some money too. By the way I'm using enamel paint.

Cake Painting 2 - Again!!

I have tried a second time to bake the cake, make the fondant and paint it up with different design and colour scheme. It was almost a disaster but in the ned managed to make it more presentable. Too much effort being put into it that it should not be wasted. So, I decided to cut and eat it..hahaha!!!Everything is edible !

Just had the shooting with Wanita Hari Ini - TV3. Did a very fast demonstration of painting on unwanted CD using enamel paint. I also had a chance to promote my book. In the same program the editor of Impiana Magazine also spoke about next year's trend in Interior design which also include refurbishing and recycling old items. Large Enamel Tray

I remember during those days when I used to visit my late grandmother, she always have this large enamel tray to served drinks, etc. Some one had asked to make this tray more contemporary by painting roses on it. I would have just retained the authenticity of this tray and keep it as an antique. Nevertheless, following her request I have based it with gesso and then paint the green colour of her choice as the background. I have to paint many layers just to cover totally the original colour of the design. The roses are painted in pink.

Cake Painting

This is my first attempt at cake painting and it has been quite a satisfying experience. I have been baking cakes as a hobby but all I wanted to do was to decorate it. A lot of people have been trying out doing faux cakes but I feel that it is worth learning to bake a real cake and making the decorations where you can enjoy eating it rather then just looking at it. The toughest part for me is to make the fondant just right for painting and to choose the right kind of edible paints to use for brushstroke method. Anyway, I enjoy doing it and may try to do again.

The past few days I have been teaching this student from Japan who learned Folk Art painting and decoupage in three days. Both of us don't speak each other language so I just use a lot of demos and body language to instruct her.....but some how it was very effective and she can follow the lessons well. The best part is ...she bought my new book !...as they say Art is so visual that you can still communicate....if there is a will there is a way. She said she will be back to learn again at the end of next year.

Recipe stand

This is a recipe stand which I have painted with still life - baking tools and ingredients inspired by my new hobby....baking cakes...I may use this stand for myself since I'm still experimenting with cake decorations...making fondant and painting it. At least we can eat our painting if it is not nice and then practice painting it again...hahaha!!!

The tin that I picked up from my neighbour's rubbish bin the other day had turned into gold. I have decoupaged and half-painted it with English cottage theme. Sometimes it's fun to do decoupage in order to get away from spending so much time on painting the details. This is especially helpful when you want to make a quick gift for someone.

Artisan Bread Chalk Board

This board was taken from my neighbour's dustbin after they had a birthday party. Before it gets into the rain I quickly take it and paint it with a black chalk paint to make it as a blackboard. The bread painted was inspired by my visit to a friend's bakery shop at Jln. Ipoh. He made all the bread and pastries sold there....so talented. Worshop in Skudai Johor

They had fun learning the smoking technique (all of them knows how to puff a cigar now...hahaha!!) and different flowers. Christmas gifts and decorations

You can use blown light bulbs to make as Christmas tree ornaments by painting it with Enamel Paint. You can also paint up some drinking bottles and candles using this paint to create gifts or decorations. This is one way of saving some cost of buying Christmas presents. The items painted are all recycled and the paint only cost you RM 13.90 per bottle which you can paint a lot of items with it. You just need to use any cheap round brush (cost you only RM 2.50) to apply it on the surface. Straw Hats from Vietnam.

These are straw hats bought from Vietnam. I was asked to paint it up for decorations in a restaurant. A very difficult task to paint on a surface that is not smooth and flat especially if you are applying a brushstroke technique.

One thing that happen on this glorious day of 11.11.11, I received a call from a customer in Sabah telling me how she liked my new book that she received from her friend as a gift. This really make you feel the effort of producing a book worthwhile. Especially when you make someone feel happy reading it.

We just had the Mesra Alam FA workshop in Ipoh yesterday. The attendees had learned six different floral designs on coasters with a smoking effect background. Apart from that I also demonstrated to them some other background effects like cracking and glazing/marble-like effect.

Painted wooden cloggs

I bought this wooden cloggs from the flea market sometime back and decided to paint it with roses just to make it look more elegant. I hated the red plastic that covers on top and decided to re-paint it with green enamel paint. The rest of the cloggs are painted with acrylic. You can learn to paint the roses from my second book that was released recently.

Frangipani Stools

These two stools was painted for the project in my second book. It looks nice when you put them together. A student of mine had painted stools before and according to her everyone loves it however they refused to sit on it because its too nice to cover it with your butt......hahaha!!!

So if you have old stools that you need to re-furbished you might as well paint it following the example shown in the book.

Refurbished old litle cabinet

This old little cabinet was given to me by a friend and it has shells carved into it. At first I did not know what to do with it because you can't really removed carved design. So I decided to paint seaside scenery to compliment the shel and some mariner's themel. It turns out quite good.

At last, my second book "Dekorasi Seni Lukis - Mesra Alam" is finally out of the printing press and I managed to collect some stock this morning. I really feel so excited to be able to hold the real book at last after so many months of working effort and waiting time. The book is in bahasa melayu consist of 15 projects using recycle items with a step-by-step instructions, diagrams, patterns and colourful pictures. Love all the pictures in it....so ceria and meriah....just wondering if I am actually over doing it. Zhostovo made simple

This wooden box has been refurbished with Zhostovo design which is a Russian Folk Art design. Because of the shape of the wood item, I thought it would be more appropriate to have a classic design on it. Anyway I was inspired to paint this box after teaching a student this Russian Folk Art technique. A good exercise for me after so long not doing anything with this regard. It took me three days to complete it although I had improvised to make it more simpler.

Ceramic Kitchen Sign

This ceramic kitchen sign was given to me as a blank shapely thing. I've put a layer of all-purpose-sealer and basecoat each section with the colour accordingly. Then just shading and dry drybrushing to highlight certain area. I just varnish one layer to protect the paint.

Wooden Pot Holder with scenery

I've decided not to paint a background colour on this wooden pot holder. Instead, after brushing a layer of all-purpose-sealer I straight away paint a scenery using acrylic paint. Thus I have made it look more country and natural. After painting the design I apply a coating of gloss varnish throughout the surface.

Enamel Paint on smooth surfaces

You can used the enamel paint on any smooth surfaces such as tin, glass and paint. I have used this paint directly on the surface and there is no varnishing required.

Mixed medium Tray

This tray has been partly painted. On the back of the tray I had dry brushed to make look like a denim cloth. The front part has been decoupaged with napkin design and then rubber stamped here and there.

My second book project

The past few months I have been working on my second book project. Trying to conceptualised the book took quite sometime before I actually writes it. I wanted it to be better from the first. It has a wider range of recycle items to be painted on but with different techniques of painting. It also has loads of flower design as requested by a lot of people. Since I had to work with a different team from the last, the outlook and layout were a bit different. Hopefully everyone likes it. Currently the book is already sent for printing and hopefully it will be released after Hari raya. Stay tuned for more info about the book.

Luanne Wykes' Technique

I started painting this wood item six years ago when I was learning the Luanne Wykes technique. The process of painting it was a bit too tedious for me and took ages to finished, so I decided to just abandoned the project. This technique requires you to apply texture paste on the design before painting over it. Recently I took it out and decided to finished it once and for all with a bit of short cut here and there....cheating actually...hahaha!!

There are two different ways that you can paint an enamel pot. You can apply gesso on its surface and then paint a background using acrylic paint before painting the design. However if you are using enamel paint you can actually paint the design directly on the surface. With this method you can washed the item.
